				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Monday, April 29, we held our annual Team United Golf Tournament fundraiser at the Athens Country Club. The tournament is a four-person scramble format with prizes for the winning team, long drive, closest to the pin, and most money raised. Overall we were able to raise over $30,000 this year. This money will be used for Team United to continue to be able to operate on campus, as well as help support our individual staff members.  Thank you to everyone who participated and gave to help support Team United through this event! You are truly partners with us in the work God is doing through TU.</p>
<p>Congratulations to our winning team of Jason Dominey, Chad Dominey, Jeremy Hobbs, and Joe Colavito. They shot a 10 under par to be this years champions.</p>

<p>This fundraiser works a little differently than most other golf tournaments. To play, we ask that each golfer help us raise money by providing TU with a list of names and addresses of people they would like to ask to give financially to Team United. Then TU sends a letter explaining the ministry and tournament to each person on behalf of the golfer. So, it actually does not cost the golfer any money to play. <p>We recently decided to change up our monthly meeting format.  The biggest change was moving locations from the Butts-Mehre building to Rooker Hall, one of the dorms on East Campus where most of the athletes live.  In the past we have not been able to reserve this room, but were blessed with that opportunity for this semester.  It is much easier for the students to attend here.</p>
<p>One major change we are trying to emphasize is letting the student leaders have more ownership of the meeting in order to give them leadership opportunities, create a closer point of connection between them and their teammates who attend, and create energy and excitement in the room by having it be student-run.  One way we implemented that was by having a couple of our student leaders emcee the meeting.  Luke Baker, junior track and cross country runner, and Anna Watson, senior cheerleader, brought tons of energy through this role by doing a hilarious skit with a great Biblical teaching point right at the beginning.</p>
<p>Another way we wanted to give the students ownership was by having them give input into what topics the speakers will teach.  They suggested talking about how to incorporate God into their sport in a way that is Biblical.  What a relevant topic for student-athletes!  Andy Rhodenbaugh, Athletes in Action staff member in Atlanta, came and spoke about the danger of letting sport become an idol, taking the place of God in your life.</p>
<p>Perhaps the highlight of the night was hearing Fred Munzenmaier share about his life, how he truly came to know Christ personally, and the impact Jesus has had on his life.  You can see that video at the top of this page, or on our testimonies page.  Fred did a fantastic job explaining through his personal experiences and Scripture how someone who knows Christ will live a life that reflects Him.</p>
<p>All in all it was a great night and one of our best turnouts of the year.  Our next monthly meeting is February 24 at 7:00.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My name is Shannon Young, and I am a junior majoring in special education at the University of Georgia. Last year I was a part of the cheerleading program, and I had the privilege of getting connected with Team United staff and becoming a part of the leadership team.  Team United has been an amazing part of my growth as a follower of Christ in college.  I have made lasting relationships through TU that have played a tremendous part in the development of my faith.</p>
<p>Over the break, I was blessed to have the opportunity to lead a huddle for FCA’s Winter Recharge in Toccoa, Georgia.  There were three of us from Team United that went to be huddle leaders.  This was my second year leading, and I loved every minute of it both years!  My favorite part is being able to spend time forming relationships with my wonderful group of high school girls that I have the chance to lead &#8211; whether it is through sports, worship, devotion time, or just having fun talking about life. This year’s theme for the camp came from 1 Timothy 6:11-12 which says, “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.  Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” So we focused on running from our sin, running to the cross and the One who is worthy, fighting for the heart of our King and a life worthy of Him, and holding onto nothing in our life but the hope of eternal life with Jesus Christ. I had such a wonderful time worshipping our sovereign Lord with this group of athletes who are on fire for the Kingdom!</p>

<p>After ringing in 2013, I headed to Atlanta with a couple of friends to attend the Passion conference.  I cannot even begin to describe the feeling of being in the Dome praising our Savior with 60,000+ other believers.  The presence of the Lord was so undeniable!  The key verse for the Passion conferences worldwide is Isaiah 26:8 which says, “Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.”  So we gathered together with that verse being the beat of our heart- that we are saying “YES, LORD!”  We long to walk in His ways waiting on His plans for us because His name and renown are our desire.</p>

<p> The force of Passion is to put an end to modern day slavery. There are more slaves in this world today than any other time in history! 27 million people.  That is absolutely absurd!  And we believe that our generation can be a force for good in this world, so with an expectant heart we went to the Lord.  Relying on Ephesians 3:20-“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power at work within us…”-we placed our faith in the fact that if we surrender to being used by God, He will use our generation to put an end to forced labor. Over $3,000,000 was raised over the course of four days, and this gathering of 60,000+ young people ages 18-25 shined a light on human slavery and pledged to END IT. This <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2013/01/08/exp-passion-movement.cnn#/video/bestoftv/2013/01/08/exp-passion-movement.cnn" target="_blank">video</a> from CNN explains all that went on this year at Passion and how we, as a generation of believers, are on board to stop this evil.</p>
